Summer planing

Looking forward to summer canoing season and making plans. But they are talking about 5-6$ gas this summer. If this holds true, I need to make canoe trip plans closer to home. Some of the rivers I'm looking at we have been canoing and camping before: Mississippi, Snake River, Rum river and the St. Croix. For sure we are going to the BWCA and Chippewa at least once. Also planing on some trout fishing and camping down White Water in May. Stay tuned.. one way or the other we will be on the water this year!

We couldn't go river camping with the kids last sumer because it rained to much and made the rivers to dangrous for the family. So if they are guessing the weather right for us, it will be a dry and hot summer.. perfect for the rivers around here.

Haven't been on in a while

sorry I haven't been blogging in a while. After our last canoe trip and bdays I sent my camera in for repair only to find out it is unrepairable. They offered me a buy up option for my camera so now I have the newest model. All canoers should know how to swim thus the girls have been taking swimming lessons this fall. They have been doing really well so we rewarded them by taking them to a pool. So those pics along with Christmas and others are what follows. Enjoy!

Chippewa National Forest canoe trip

We had a great canoe trip in Chippewa National forest. Caught lots of fish, swam, and portaged all over. Because it is a national forest (not like the BWCA) ATVs are permitted and the first night we have VERY loud neighbors tearing up the woods till 2:30 am on the other side of the lake. But the next night was very quite after they left. We also got caught in a small but solid thunder storm on the lake. The waves weren't to bad in the middle, however the wind did tip over trees on the shore line while we paddled. Unfortunately for us, it also tipped a tree over on our car at the boat launch, but we didn't find that out till the next day. The damage was only to the roof rack and a dent to the roof. Over all it was a great trip, the kids and us had a TON of fun!

BWCA and beyond

Just finished our BWCA trip for the year! This year we went in on LIS north to Loon and saw the pictos. Here are the photos!

This is the day after we got back. There was a thunderstorm the next day and lighting hit the field. We found the spot.

last day of school- first day canoe

On our last day of school I took the kids canoeing for a field trip. We studied the ecosystems of a pond. Then later on Mother's day we took the kids fishing at a state park.
